hResume Project

The hResume WordPress plugin is finally complete (in beta).  What is it?  It is a simple way to present your resume on your WordPress weblog.  The resume data is marked-up using the hResume Microformat so that machines can read it.  Download the plugin here.  Learn more about hResume here.  This completes phase one of the project.

Phase two includes the modification of our QwikPing server to accept hResume pings from the plugin (i.e. so that we know when you create or update your resume).  Phase three includes the creation of a resume listing site (i.e. you can’t post a job or a resume there - only resumes marked-up using hResume will be listed).  We will keep you posted!

hResume is a microformat for publishing resumes and CVs. For those of you who are wondering what Microformats are I will steal from the Microformats site:

Designed for humans first and machines second, microformats are a set of simple, open data formats built upon existing and widely adopted standards. Instead of throwing away what works today, microformats intend to solve simpler problems first by adapting to current behaviors and usage patterns (e.g. XHTML, blogging).

microformats are:

• a way of thinking about data
• design principles for formats
• adapted to current behaviors and usage patterns (“Pave the cow paths.â€?)
• highly correlated with semantic XHTML, AKA the real world semantics, AKA lowercase semantic web, AKA lossless XHTML
• a set of simple open data format standards that many are actively developing and implementing for more/better structured blogging and web microcontent publishing in general.
• “An evolutionary revolutionâ€?
• all the above.

microformats are not:

• a new language
• infinitely extensible and open-ended
• an attempt to get everyone to change their behavior and rewrite their tools
• a whole new approach that throws away what already works today
• a panacea for all taxonomies, ontologies, and other such abstractions
• defining the whole world, or even just boiling the ocean
• any of the above

Welcome to the home of the hResume Project, not to be confused with the hResume standards effort taking place at the Microformats hResume site. Once we realized the Microformat team was drafting the hResume specification we decided to build tools around it to hasten its adoption. We are huge fans of Microformats and feel that real world use cases of specifications like hResume are needed to move the concept forward.

Who are we? Our organization is now called SPUR (formerly known as m|ventures). What is SPUR? In a sentence: SPUR makes new company ideas go. We build new companies in media, technology and aligned areas.

Our competencies including web, open source, telecom, internet, marketing and business model innovation. Our strengths lie in our ability to leverage non-traditional business models such as open source, freemium delivery and fractional ownership.
